ISPRS Council announced that the contract between the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), Dubai, and ISPRS was signed to organize the ISPRS Geospatial Week (GSW) 2021, taking place from March 21-25, 2021 in Dubai.
Saeed Al Mansoori, the manager of the MBRSC Applications Development and Analysis section, will act as the GSW Director.
MBRSC, founded in 2006, is a scientific centre specialized in space science and advanced technology contributing to the establishment of the national space sector in the United Arab Emirates.
They work on the UAE space program which includes various satellite projects and the Emirates Mars Mission. The centre is also actively working to promote space science and research in the Gulf region.
The ISPRS Geospatial Week (GSW) is a combination of workshops organised by various ISPRS Working Groups and possibly other parties active in areas of interest of ISPRS.
The GSW is held biennially in odd years and is convened by a local organisation, led by the GSW Director.
The contract with MBRSC follow a request from Dubai Municipality, who had won the bid to organize GSW in Dubai for 2019, to postpone the meeting by two years and further discussion with the two organizations, both of which belong to Dubai government.
As a consequence, GSW 2019 will be held in Enschede, the Netherlands, from June 10-14, 2019, and the following GSW edition will then take place in Dubai in March 2021.
