First North American customer for the RIEGL VQ-1560 II

RIEGL announced that SAM, LLC, a leader in providing geospatial data solutions, will be the first company in North America to acquire and deploy the most recent major advance in aerial scanning technology, the RIEGL VQ-1560 II dual channel waveform processing airborne LiDAR scanning system for high point density mapping and ultra-wide area mapping.

The sensor will be installed in SAM’s new fixed-wing aircraft, a 2019 Cessna Grand Caravan EX, to further expand SAM’s national aerial mapping capabilities.

“SAM has always been an industry leader when it comes to adopting new technology,” said SAM CEO, Chris Solomon. “By combining this RIEGL scanner and new Cessna with our deep experience in aerial mapping, we continue to expand our capabilities and increase the value we deliver for clients.”

The dual LiDAR waveform processing airborne scanning system, the RIEGL VQ-1560 II, provides further increased performance and highest productivity based on a laser pulse repetition rate of up to 4 MHz, resulting in more than 2.66 million measurements per second on the ground. The system is the most flexible choice for data acquisition with an exceptionally wide range of achievable point densities and the utmost data collection efficiency at the same time.

The new RIEGL VQ-1560 II has been unveiled to the world geospatial audience during INTERGEO in Stuttgart, Germany just two weeks ago and has been met with enthusiastic feedback by the global community. In addition to SAM’s VQ-1560 II acquisition in North America, several more units from the European markets have been ordered, particularly from Poland and Belgium.

“We are excited to bring the state of the art VQ-1560 II Airborne LiDAR sensor to market and are thrilled about the extremely positive feedback our customers have provided so far. Congratulations and thanks to our long-term customer SAM, LLC on their recent decision to deploy the latest RIEGL Airborne Advancement! stated Johannes Riegl Jr., President of RIEGL USA.
