Chilean government strengthens geospatial community

Geospatial Media & Communication and the Ministry of National Assets, Chile, have agreed to work together to strengthen the Chilean geospatial industry and work towards developing a National Geospatial Strategy for the benefit of the country’s economy and society.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Victor Hugo Osorio Reyes, Minister of National Assets, Government of Chile and Sanjay Kumar, CEO of Geospatial Media at an event witnessed by Michelle Bachelet, President of the Republic, and Mr. KM John, First Secretary of the Embassy of India in Chile.

As per the MOU, to improve the capacities of the Chilean geospatial community, the Ministry along with Geospatial Media will organize the Latin American Geospatial Forum 2017 in April, along with international meetings of UN-GGIM: Americas, UN-GGIM Working Group on Disasters, GEO and Capacity Building Workshop for Caribbean Countries sometime next year. Both parties have agreed mutually to undertake research and documentation that aims to assess the existing geospatial infrastructure, policies, and capacities and accordingly recommend a National Strategy for harnessing growing value of geospatial information for socio-economic development of Chile.

“Recognizing the ever-increasing role of creating awareness, comprehensive policy formulation and coordinated standards, integrated workflows, regional and global collaboration, Geospatial Media and Communications and Ministry of National Assets, Government of Chile has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding. We plan to work together to strengthen Chilean geospatial community and industry and develop National Geospatial Strategy for Chilean Economy and Society,” stated Sanjay Kumar, CEO, Geospatial Media and Communications.
