The Association for Geographic Information has moved its annual conference and flagship event GeoCom to Scotland.
Taking place on Thursday 27th February in Edinburgh, and hosted by AGI Scotland, GeoCom 25 will feature an exciting programme of speakers and networking sessions under the theme ‘Opportunities in Geospatial Intelligence: Shaping a Smarter World’.
Speakers include a keynote presentation from Rebekah Jones, an award-winning and celebrated scientist turned whistleblower, who will discuss a new template for ethical practice in geospatial intelligence. Joining Rebekah on the GeoCom 25 agenda will be Mike Steven and Amanda Chan of Ramboll UK, who will present their work with the Scottish Government’s Digital Planning Programme and the Place-Tech Lab concept, and Siew Fong Chen from the Global Maritime Consultancy, who will demonstrate a 3D risk model used for subsea power cable projects. Other confirmed speakers include Jethro Lennox, Cartographic Director of Collins Bartholomew and Paul Everett, a Building Stone Scientist working for the British Geological Survey in Edinburgh.
“GeoCom is an important event, not only in the AGI calendar but also in the wider UK geospatial community,” commented Fergus Craig, Co-Chair of the Association for Geographic Information. “I am therefore delighted to announce that, for the first time, our flagship, annual conference will take place in Scotland giving professionals around the UK the opportunity to experience the unique GeoCom experience.”
Bruce Gittings, Chair of AGI Scotland and a Senior Lecturer in Geographic Information at the University of Edinburgh, added, “By partnering with GeoCom in a new and exciting way we are adding value to our annual AGI Scotland event and enhancing our offering to the Scottish GI community.”
In addition to the packed programme of speakers and presentations, GeoCom 25 will also offer a number of networking opportunities, supported by the AGI’s regional and special interest groups, and give attendees the chance to engage with Gold event sponsors Ardent, City Science, Esri UK, Idox, Informed Solution, Landclan and Verisk, and Silver sponsors Avineon Tensing, Bluesky and Geovation Scotland.
