The ‘European Council of Geodetic Surveyors’ and ‘GeoInformatics’ are very happy and proud to announce their cooperation for the coming two years.

The Handheld Group, a fast growing manufacturer of smartly designed and cutting edge rugged notebooks, tablets and PDAs, has received the Red Herring Global 100 award. The honor recognizes the leading private companies from North America, Europe, and Asia, celebrating their innovations, technologies and business models across their respective industries. Handheld was the sole Swedish company among the hundred winners.

The Southern California teen who made headlines last year when he became the youngest person to summit Mount Everest has set his sights on the South Pole. Fifteen-year-old Jordan Romero will leave his home in Big Bear, California, on December 12, 2011, and journey to Vinson Massif, Antarctica's tallest mountain. During the climb, Romero and his team will use an Esri application to provide updates that include their GPS location, weather, and elevation.

Esri's ArcGIS system has been certified with the VCE VblockInfrastructure Platform, and Esri is now part of the VCE independent software vendor (ISV) program. Vblock platforms bring together best-of-breed technologies from Cisco, EMC, and VMware into a prepackaged, prevalidated converged infrastructure system. Esri's certification will accelerate the deployment of on-premises private cloud solutions with mapping and geospatial analysis capabilities.

DigitalGlobe, a global provider of high-resolution earth imagery solutions, announced that Vizrt has launched a new online service enabling designers to quickly find, preview, and add DigitalGlobe imagery into their broadcast graphics packages using Vizrt's Viz World production software. The subscription-based service, titled "DigitalGlobe Online," is available now.

Avenza Systems Inc., producers of the PDF Maps app for iOS and geospatial plugins for Adobe Creative Suite, including Geographic Imager for Adobe Photoshop, announced the release of MAPublisher 8.6 for Adobe Illustrator. In addition to a large number of new features and enhancements to existing ones, this release is the first version of MAPublisher to offer support for Safe Software FME Desktop product.

The second European LiDAR Mapping Forum (ELMF) was hailed a great success when it took place in the prestigious Congress venue in Salzburg last week from November 29 – 30th. Despite the economic downturn in Europe, the show reflected much positivity from the LIDAR industry, with a particularly animated conference. There were over 445 attendees from 40 different countries and interestingly, there were almost twice as many visitors from Eastern Europe as the first event, which took place last year in The Hague, Netherlands.
