ESRI UK launches a new perspective in ArcGIS 10

ESRI UK launches the latest iteration of ArcGIS, its flagship Geographical Information Systems (GIS) platform that runs on over a million desktops worldwide. ArcGIS 10 updates all aspects of the software and introduces significant new features to help users perform their GIS work faster.

ESRI ArcGIS 10 is a proven interoperable platform which will revolutionise how organisations use geographic data, delivering a host of possibilities with new tools and workflows to enhance user productivity. ArcGIS 10 will dramatically transform how organisations use GIS, enabling them to seamlessly leverage its capabilities across the desktop, web and in the field and also offers  a scalable platform grow with their ambitions.

ArcGIS 10 enables users to author data, maps, globes and models on a single integrated platform across desktop, server, web and mobile. Through the automation of processes and integration with other mission critical systems such as CRM, ArcGIS 10 will allow organisations to make better business decisions based on more reliable analysis ultimately delivering a superior customer service whist driving down costs.

Increased productivity
ArcGIS 10 allows users to perform desktop work more efficiently with faster, more responsive drawing performance including smooth, continuous panning of data. By executing geoprocessing in the background and automating additional workflows with Python, ArcGIS allows users to continue to interact with maps as they update. The package provides easier access to most commonly used geoprocessing tools whilst introducing new features such as a new Search window in ArcMap to quickly locate maps, data, and tools and a catalogue window built into ArcMap for faster browsing and adding of data. Map creation and production is simplified with streamlined desktop (2D/3D) and web editing.

Manage and Create Data More Easily
An improved geoprocessing framework allows better analysis and modeling with ModelBuilder now supporting undo/redo, iterators, and ToolTips. Improved map algebra with Python support, together with new Fuzzy Overlay and Fuzzy Reclassify tools provides for better site selection and suitability modeling.

Improved imagery access
Tighter integration of imagery in ArcGIS 10 allows more efficient use and management of imagery on the desktop. A fast, dynamic raster display combined on-the-fly processing and mosaicking deliver faster performance with accelerated image display. Web API access to image services allows ArcGIS 10 to efficiently serve dynamic image mosaics to many applications.

New ways to share
Tight integration with ArcGIS Online search and share capabilities, improves collaboration allowing organisations to easily create and distribute projects that may include data, layers, maps, tools, scenes, globes, diagrams, and add-ins. ArcGIS Server simplifies the sharing and organisation of geographic data across the enterprise via a new Search service.

Expanded GIS in the field
ArcGIS 10 is updated to integrate effectively with the latest in the field technology from tablet PCs to smart phones. The new Mobile Project Centre, introduced for the first time in ArcGIS 10, simplifies the integration of streaming GPS, photo attachments and location tracking. In addition to a new iPhone mapping application, an ArcGIS API allows developers to build their own iPhone applications leveraging the power of ArcGIS 10.

Better for developers
Developers can expect a simplified and more efficient experience through a single ArcObjects.NET SDK as well as a single ArcObjects Java SDK for ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Engine, and ArcGIS Server. Easily build applications with additional Web APIs and streamlined software developer kits (SDKs) are available to encourage greater innovation and help GIS enterprises and individuals take a new perspective on the use of GIS in everyday decision making.
