California's Geospatial Future: Opening Doors to New Opportunities

Next month, the California GIS community will meet in Sacramento for the 15th Annual CalGIS Conference.

This long-standing annual educational event is presented by the four California URISA Chapters: BAAMA, Northern California, Central California and Southern California.

The conference includes preconference training, SIXTY presentations, exhibit hall demonstrations and discussions, and networking events, all at a great value.

Conference Presentations

- Dozens of GIS professionals will share their success stories and challenges with important not-to-be-missed presentations. Here are just a few presentations on the schedule:

Opening Keynote Address - California GIS Tackles Global Issues

  • Michael Anderson (California's State Climatologist) will discuss California's unique climate challenges and GIS.
  • Mark Aubin (Cofounder of Google Earth) will talk about the history and future directions of Google Earth.
  • Mitch Grout (Solutions Engineer for Dataquick Information Systems) will address the business of aggregating tax and deed information at a nationwide level.

Closing Plenary Session

 

The conference will close with Ed Carubis, Senior Program Manager for ESRI, who was the CIO for New York's Health Department during 9/11, followed by California's State CIO, Teri Takai. Ms. Takai will present important information about California State Government's GIS and the Governor's backing of GIS.

* If schedules work, Ms. Takai will also introduce California's new State Geographic Information Officer to the community!
