1Spatial resumes OGC TC level membership
1Spatial announce that after a lapse of eight years, the company has resumed its Technical Committee (TC) level of membership.
1Spatial originally joined OGC in 1996. Jointly, with GE Smallworld, the company hosted the first TC event outside North America in August 1997. It was also the first at which specifications were approved and adopted (Simple Features). The press release on this event remains on the OGC website to this day, see: www.opengeospatial.org/pressroom/pressreleases/227.
1Spatial continued to participate at the TC level for nearly a decade and Dr Paul Watson made a significant contribution to the topology definition contained in GML. Although dropping out from the TC level, 1Spatial has continued to contribute to OGC activities and has been active in the Data Quality Working Group, co-chaired by Dr Matt Beare. Participation in these activities has contributed to 1Spatial having a unique set of capabilities in data quality assessment for sharing. It recently launched a ‘Software as a Service’ data validation tool, Socium that checks spatial data against OGC Valid and Simple Features.
OGC interest in the use of location as an enabler in Business Intelligence saw the creation of a GeoBI working group at the recent Brussels TC in November coincided with 1Spatial’s interests in this area. Dr Mike Sanderson offered to chair the newly formed GeoBI working group.
